Sheriff Andrew M Cubie was solicitor in private practice in Glasgow, specialising in court work. He was a part time lecturer at Strathclyde University and Glasgow Graduate School of Law teaching both graduate and post graduate students as well as devising and presenting courses for paralegals on court procedure and practice for the Centre for Professional Legal Studies.

He was appointed Temporary Sheriff from 1997-1999. He was admitted as a Solicitor Advocate in 2001. He was appointed as a full time Sheriff in 2003, with an all Scotland commission until appointment to Stirling in December 2004. He sat as a Sheriff of Tayside Central and Fife at Stirling until June 2010 since when he has been one of the Sheriffs of Glasgow and Strathkelvin at Glasgow Sheriff Court

He has been involved in the training of both Sheriffs and Justices of the Peace through the Judicial Studies Committee and has contributed to legal periodicals including Scottish Criminal Law, as well as to the leading text, Macphail on Sheriff Court Practice.
